Playa Grande is located in Costa Rica’s Pacific Northwest state of Guanacaste. It sits inside of a national park dedicated to protecting the habitat of the dinosaur-aged and now-endangered leatherback turtles as well as the precious wetland estuary. The park’s housing restrictions keep the human population of Playa Grande very low. There are definitely far more jungle creatures here than people! And the people you do see will probably smile and say hello as you pass by. Playa Grande is that kind of place.

You will cross paths with Playa Grande’s other residents: Howler monkeys, iguanas, lots of lizards, geckos, parrots, pelicans, egrets, and lots of other birds. You may also meet up with the more rarely sighted crocodiles, frogs, anteaters, coati (raccoons’ cousin), skunks, and of course snakes.
